St Onuphrius the Great Parish, Foam Lake SK
The first tiny wooden church of the Russian Orthodox faith was constructed fifteen miles north-west of Foam Lake in 1910. It was named in honour of St. Onuphrius the Great. For more than fourteen years this little church provided for spiritual needs of the Orthodox Christians of the area.
In the spring of 1924, construction of a new church began and was completed late in 1925.
A special meeting was held in the St. Onuphrius’ Church in November 17, 1925. The parishioners of the above-mentioned Church and namely those who laid the foundation and built this Church, decided unanimously that this Church from this day on, is contracted or enters into contract with land property (graveyard) (Churchyard) where said church is built as one undivided part of each other and is contracted as Russian Orthodox Mission or under Russian Orthodox Mission in Canada.
Although the parish is small and the church is located in rural area, the parishioners do everything possible to maintain the order and beauty of the church. About four services are celebrated during the year, thus continuing the church-going traditions of the founders of the parish.
May the Merciful Lord protect and strengthen with blessing the parishioners of the Church of St. Onuphrius the Great at Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, now, and for all the years to come.
