The Triumph of Orthodoxy at St Barbara Cathedral, Edmonton, on March 24, 2024

No one could describe the Word of the Father;

but when He took flesh from you, O Theotokos, He accepted to be described,

and restored the fallen image to its former state by uniting it to divine beauty.//

We confess and proclaim our salvation in words and images.

Kontakion (Sunday of Orthodoxy)

On March 24, 2024, the faithful of the Patriarchal Parishes were celebrating the Triumph of Orthodoxy at St. Barbara Cathedral in Edmonton.

The rector of St. Barbara’s Cathedral archpriest Igor Kisil was heading Liturgy with the rector of Orthodox IX Parishes Evgeniy Protsenko, archpriest Viktor, and the deacon Stefan Nagi conserving, with many altar helpers.

After the Liturgy there was a Festive Procession with the rite of Orthodoxy; the clergy and the people were carrying the holy icons with special prayers said and song sung by the Choir of the Cathedral, and with altar helpers carrying the Cross, hkorugvia (the Church banners) and candles. This year the rector invited all the children to take part in carrying the icons, so they also participated in the procession, even the littlest ones.

In his word father Igor congratulated the parishioners with the accomplishing of the first week of the Great Lent and reminded of the history and the meaning of the first Lenten Sunday.
